Torre Saracena Line

TRADITIONAL CALABRIAN AGRIFOOD SPECIALTIES

Torre Saracena is named after an ancient tower located in our lands. To be precise, it is a Norman watchtower, but since it has always been called "Torre Saracena" in the area, we preferred to respect Corigliano's tradition when we decided to use the tower in the logo and the name of the Line and its brand.

It was established in 1993 to create a series of gourmet products through the transformation of wild vegetables produced in our fields (caper shoots, lapristi, baby artichokes) and using only sweet extra-virgin olive oil from Rossano. Alongside these preserved vegetables, a series of jams, ready-made sauces, vegetable creams, and candied fruits were later added; all produced with traditional recipes from the area. The recipes stem from the blend of Calabrian and Albanian (Arbëreshë) traditions that have significantly influenced the domestic cuisine of this area of Calabria over the centuries.

Meticulous search for genuineness, love for tradition, care for original recipes, and rigorous production standards: this is how the Torre Saracena line of Calabrian agrofood specialties was born. A selection of true delights that go directly from the company’s gardens to tables around the world to savor the most authentic taste of Calabria.

Nik Line

ORGANIC AND NUTRACEUTICAL BASED ON GOJI BERRIES AND MORINGA OLEIFERA

A few years ago, we set out to create nutraceutical products, that is, products that are between a nutrient and a drug with beneficial effects on the human body beyond the purely nutritional.

We chose to introduce two plants with incredible nutritional properties to our lands: Goji Berries and Moringa Oleifera. It seemed impossible to cultivate these plants in a non-native territory, but we overcame the challenge thanks to continuous research and the characteristics of the Sibari plain, becoming the first agricultural entity in Europe to cultivate goji.

But that's not all. Studies conducted by Domenico Montesano & Francesca Fallarino from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Food Science and Nutrition Section at the University of Perugia, show that our goji berries have more than twice the concentration, compared to Asian berries, of carotenoids and particularly zeaxanthin dipalmitate, an extremely important antioxidant in counteracting cell oxidative processes and in anti-tumor activity.

There is much more to say, such as that we do not use chemical fertilizers, herbicides, GMOs, additives, colorants, and preservatives; or that we hand-pick the berries to preserve their organoleptic properties; or that our products have antioxidant, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and anti-diabetic properties... but it is much simpler and more engaging to watch this short interview with Favella owner Nicolò Rizzo and multi-starred Chef Enrico Bartolini who uses our products for his precious recipes. The interview is from a few years ago (2015) when the University of Perugia’s research mentioned above was not yet completed.
