With Moringa you can really do anything, since every part of it is perfectly edible. But it is from the moringa seeds that one of its most ancient properties has been rediscovered: that of purifying the water .
There is always something new being discovered about Moringa. In addition to being an important source of nutrients (proteins, minerals, vitamins, potassium, etc.), it is also able to reduce the amount of bacteria present in non-potable water.
A property not to be underestimated: millions of people in the world do not have any access to drinking water, and Moringa Oleifera (easy to grow in the most diverse terrains) would seem to be the ideal solution.
According to a recent research by the Pennsylvania State University , Moringa seeds ground and placed in cloudy water would drastically reduce the amount of bacteria present inside. But how?
How Moringa Seeds Work
Research has shown that inside the seeds of the plant there is a particular protein capable of attracting dirt particles and making them settle on the bottom. This cationic protein (i.e. positively charged) attracts “foreign bodies” into the water, breaks their protection and gathers them under a single membrane, making them fall to the bottom ( flocculant property ).
Think that this particular use of Moringa seeds was already in use in Ancient Egypt to purify the water extracted from the Nile.
Isn't it incredible how many small but great things this plant can do? That's why FAO is also promoting it in different parts of the world, where access to drinking water and highly nutritious foods is not so simple and immediate.
