Few people know about it, and that's not a good thing. The properties of Moringa Oleifera are almost infinite, so much so that for centuries it has been defined as the "Miraculous Tree". But before describing its fabulous beneficial properties, let's get to know this incredible plant a little better!
Moringa Oleifera is a plant that grows mainly in the equatorial and tropical zone of our planet . It generally reaches 4/7 meters in height, but with the right soil it can even exceed 10! In addition to this, it resists drought very well and adapts very easily to different soils.
But do you want to know what its most important feature is? The whole plant is edible ! Yes, you understood correctly: leaves, fruits, flowers and seeds are perfect for human nutrition and contain a myriad of nutritional properties, so much so that this plant has been promoted by the FAO. See our products based on Moringa Oleifera .
Ready to learn all the features? Let's go!
A perfect protein content
The parts of the plant have a complete protein content: each part has the whole range of essential amino acids (and not) required for human protein needs, a unique feature in the plant world!
100% edible!
As we have already said, every part of Moringa Oleifera is perfectly edible. But let's see the characteristics of each part.
Moringa Leaves
Moringa leaves are beautiful to look at and delicious to eat! They are rich in proteins, vitamins and mineral salts . They are consumed both cooked and raw and have a characteristic that is decidedly unique for the plant world: 25% of their weight is made up of proteins!
- contain more protein than eggs
- double the protein of cow's milk
- four times the vitamin A of carrots
- 8 times the amount of vitamin C found in oranges
- three times the potassium of bananas
Moringa Fruits
The fruits of this incredible plant (more precisely, the still immature pods), called “ drumsticks ”, can be boiled and have a flavour very similar to asparagus.
Moringa Flowers
They can be eaten raw and a very precious honey is obtained from them.
Moringa Seeds
Moringa Oleifera seeds are consumed both boiled and toasted, and are very similar to chickpeas. Other important qualities: the seeds also produce an oil (each seed contains 30 to 50%) rich in properties and that does not go rancid. From the residual paste, a compound is obtained that contains about 60% of high-quality proteins.
Moringa Roots
Moringa roots are very similar to radishes and are mostly used as a flavoring. But be careful! Do not consume excessive quantities: they contain a substance that could interfere with nerve transmission.
Rich in… everything!
Moringa Oleifera is one of the best natural remedies for many problems: it is rich in antioxidants (very useful in fighting free radicals), anti-inflammatories, promotes good circulation, good digestion, rebalances the metabolism, strengthens the immune system and regulates hormone levels.
You eat, but not only!
Besides being perfect for human nutrition, Moringa Oleifera also has many other uses :
- the oil is widely used in cosmetics for its famous properties;
- a particular type of rubber is obtained from the bark; it can also be used to produce paper and a blue dye;
- the leaves can be used to produce a very useful liquid fertilizer;
- The seeds are very useful for purifying contaminated water.
We know, we too were speechless when we discovered all the fantastic properties of Moringa! That's why we decided to try to grow it in the Sibari Plain and, incredibly, we succeeded!
